Make Your Spine Part of Your Resolution This Year

By Brandi Goodman

Health is a general resolution that many people strive for in the new year. This time, be sure to make your spine part of that resolution as well. Your spine is necessary for support, strength, and stability. A weak back will not allow you to move and exercise to the best of your abilities. Work to keep your spine strong so you can improve your health efficiently and with adequate results.

Vow to Stretch Before All Activity

So many people forget to stretch out their bodies before playing a sport, enjoying time outside, or going for a walk. You may not think you need it, but the spine really does need an adequate stretching if you're going to be able to continue exercising for an extended duration. You won't make it as long if your spine starts shouting in pain in the process because you didn't stretch it out well enough -- or at all.

Vow to Put the Phone Down More Often

The smartphone has become the bane of many people's existence over the past few years. If you're one who spends too much time looking down at your device and allowing your neck to suffer, it's time to vow to do better. Make a resolution about putting the phone down more often this year. Spending too much time looking down can quickly put pain in your neck, shoulders, and upper back. This weight on your spine is not good in the slightest. You need to take breaks from your devices often and keep your neck upright to avoid spinal struggles.

Vow to Follow Your Chiropractor's Suggestions

More than just going to the chiropractor when you should, you should make the decision to actually follow through with your chiropractor's suggestions each time. Too many people get adjustments yet never bother to take their chiropractor's advice afterward. If your doctor of chiropractic offers exercises that can help improve the pain you frequently feel in your back, why would you ignore it? Take that advice seriously and follow what your doctor orders. Your spine -- and your chiropractor -- will thank you.

Spinal resolutions are necessary for improving your health. Don't just stick with the same old "I will lose weight this year" or "my resolution is to be healthier". Set a specific resolution regarding improving your spinal health so you can strengthen your back and improve your abilities to reach your health goals as intended. You won't get very far with a sore spine, after all.
