Celebrating Fitness Holidays With Family
By Brandi Swieter
National Family Health and Fitness Day is celebrated in September. National Take the Stairs Day occurs in January. April is Physical Wellness Month. On these days for sure, as well as any other time throughout the year, families should come together to enjoy a day of fitness and fun. It’s a great way to get in some bonding time while improving overall wellness. There are plenty of ways to celebrate.
Head to the Mall and Take the Stairs
One of the days to celebrate was Take the Stairs Day. This would be a great time for the family to head to the mall and opt for taking the stairs between levels instead of using an elevator or escalator. Families can improve fitness by doing this more often. Skip the elevator every time you’re there and stick with the stairs to get your legs moving.
Go for a Walk or Hike
A family walk through the woods near a park, or even a hike somewhere farther, is a great way for everyone to get into shape. Take walks or hikes like these often and you’ll notice an increase in leg muscle size as well as better stamina and improved well-being overall. It’s something easy to do for many, yet can be fun and eventful with sights to see and time spent with family.
Play at the Playground
Too many parents sit on the sidelines as their children play at the playground. Though there may be other children around, and therefore other parents, making it harder to play, parents can get up and have some fun with their kids when the place isn’t so busy. Swinging from the monkey bars or climbing the rocks can be incredibly fun and bring you back to your childhood days. Your kids will enjoy getting to have their parents not just watch but play along with them.
Have a Family Dance Party
Dancing burns plenty of calories and uses the entire body. Have a family dance party right in your own living room and improve fitness easily. Turn up the tunes and break a sweat getting down to the beat.
Fitness holidays and monthly celebrations of health throughout the year should always be celebrated. On top of that, families should try their best to incorporate fitness and health options into their regular schedule. Improving the lives of everyone in the family while getting to spend bonding time with one another is a win-win.
