School Pain, Stopped

By Brandi Goodman

Plenty of pain can come with the daily desk duty, backpack carrying, stress-inducing environment of school. You never know when your body may become plagued with aches and left to feel overworked and overtired. School pain can be stopped with a few tips to help you make it through your school career ache-free.

Wear Athletic Shoes

You may have to do a lot of walking in school -- especially at the high school level. You'll have to make your way from one classroom to the next, and then to the cafeteria, back to another classroom, and so on. All this walking can be made easier with a comfortable and supportive pair of athletic shoes. Don't wear high heels, bulky boots, sandals, or flats to school. None of these offer the support necessary to handle the hard ground of the school hallways.

Stretch Before and After School

At the very least, you should be stretching out your body well before you even get to the school building. Stretch again once you leave or arrive home to help your body recover. Sitting for hours at a desk will leave your body sore and stiff. Stretching regularly can help keep you more limber and prevent such severe aches from setting in. You could stretch throughout your day as well to help yourself even further.

Wear Your Backpack the Right Way

Don't let your backpack hang off one shoulder, or allow it to sag low on your back. Doing so will cause neck and shoulder pain because of all the extra weight tugging at the area. You need to wear your backpack the right way each day so you can stay safe and free from dreaded back pain. Use both shoulder straps and be sure to adjust them accordingly so that your bag sits between your shoulder blades. Any lower and it will be tugging on your body and causing discomfort.

Drink Water Throughout the Day

Water helps prevent aches and keep your joints limber. Your body needs proper hydration to stay feeling well. Make sure you have a water bottle with you so you can drink plenty of water throughout the school day. Your joints will thank you.

Of course, not all aches can always be diminished. We can't guarantee you won't get a headache from all the math problems you have to solve. With these tips in mind, however, your body should experience less pain overall and be better able to make it through each day.
