Why You Might Need Help Changing Your Habits
By Genevieve Cunningham
When it comes to improving health, many people like to go it alone. We think that since it’s our bodies, we must know best, right? While it’s certainly true that we know our bodies best, going the improvement route alone isn’t always the best option. In fact, getting some help can often mean faster and more lasting success. If you’re not finding the success you’ve been hoping for in the quest for better health, take a look at these reasons why getting some help in changing your habits may be the best choice you can make.
Change is Hard
There’s no point in denying that change is just really hard. If it was easy, we could decide and change on a whim. But usually, we can’t. We struggle and stress and try again and again to make change happen. Can we do it alone? Many times, yes. But if you want to make the process easier, getting a little help may be the best way to do it.
They’ll Call You on Your Excuses
Getting someone to help you make change means having someone to call you out when you’re making excuses. We don’t like to have someone call us out, but it’s necessary. When we do it alone, we often make excuses such as “I’m too tired” or “I don’t have the time.” If someone is helping us make change, they can tell us when our excuses hold up and when our excuses are just that -- excuses. If you tend to make excuses, getting some outside help may mean the difference between failure and success.
It Gives You Accountability
Some people are great at being accountable to themselves, but many people need someone else. They need someone to hold their feet to the fire. Accountability is a big deal in the world of health and fitness. If you think that you could benefit from a little accountability, getting a helper might be your best bet.
There’s no shame in reaching out for help. In fact, it's a bold step in the right direction. Hire a counselor, a trainer, or a health coach. Get whatever you need to help you be successful. Getting a little help may mean you finally move past the ordinary and into the life and health that you’ve been working for.
