3 Ways to Fight Illness at Home
By Genevieve Cunningham
Everyone has and will experience illness in their life. We can’t avoid all germs, and as a result, we’ll all suffer from various colds or illnesses. Sometimes, a particular sickness means a trip to the doctor is necessary. But other times, it might be possible to treat your illness in the comfort of your own home. If you’ve caught a little bug and need to nurture yourself back to health, take a look at these tips for doing it right in your bedroom.
Get More Rest
Rest is essential to healing your body. Rest allows the immune system to go to work without interruption, and it begins to fight off the foreign invading germs to get you healthy again. If possible, pass off all of your responsibilities and sleep as much as possible. Call on your spouse, your parents, siblings, or whoever can help. The more rest you can get, the faster your body can get well again, and the faster you can get back to the ins and outs of daily life.
Drink, Drink, Drink
It’s easy to get dehydrated when you’re sick, and dehydration just makes the illness worse. If you’re feeling ill, make sure you’re getting plenty to drink. Water is still best, but you can also opt for some soda if your stomach is upset or whatever you feel like drinking. It’s best to avoid gulping, and instead keep your beverage on the nightstand and sip, sip, sip all night and day.
Stock Your Cabinets
The food that you eat can play a big role in how quickly you get better. After all, you are what you eat. To fight off illness, keep onion, garlic, and chicken broth handy. These foods are natural germ fighters, and they can serve to boost your immune system when you’re feeling rundown. To be safe, keep these items in your kitchen at all times and use them on a regular basis, sick or not.
Sometimes illness calls for professional help. Don’t be hesitant to see a doctor if you’re sick. But if you’re certain you can treat it at home, or if the doctor gives you the OK, use these tips to help your body heal. With some self-care and a little nurturing, you’ll be back to feeling your best before you know it.
