3 Things You Need for a Better Run

By Genevieve Cunningham

Running is an excellent but incredibly tough way to work out. It requires serious dedication, a willingness to be sore and drained, and a demand on the body to stick with it through the tough times. But it’s also one of the best and fastest ways to get yourself in better physical condition. So how can you make the running process a little easier? Take a look at these three things you need to make your running experience a better one today.

Music

Music makes everything better. For running, it passes the time and improves motivation. Without it, you may find that your run feels incredibly long and boring. To get some music, you have a few options. If you’re using a treadmill at home, you can simply turn on some tunes in the room. If you’re in public or taking a jog outside, you can use your phone or other handheld device to get your playlist. Just get a device that can be secured to your body, buy some nice headphones, and enjoy.

Running Attire

You may be surprised at how much your clothes matter when you’re running. The wrong shoes, shorts that ride up, a shirt that won’t stay in place … all of these can be incredibly frustrating and all but ruin your run. Make sure that you have comfortable and supportive shoes, supportive but breathable clothes, and a way to keep your hair out of your face. With the right attire, you’ll not only feel more like a runner, but you’ll be more comfortable so that your run can be more effective.

Water

Don’t try to run without proper hydration. Your throat will burn, muscles will ache, and you may even wind up with a dehydration headache. Fill up a water bottle and take it with you. If you don’t want to carry it, take some sips before you begin, a few sips in the middle, and then again at the end of your run. Whatever you do, don’t guzzle! Drinking too much too fast can make your run miserable, as you’ll end up with a stomachache and that water may even come back up again.

Running is a great exercise to add to your mix. But if you want to be successful, you have to be prepared. Use these items to get yourself ready for a great workout, and you may find that running is the perfect exercise to get you feeling fit and healthy.
