3 Ways to Sharpen Your Mind and Memory
By Genevieve Cunningham
The mind. What a powerful tool! While we understand that we need our minds to carry out any activity and even just to live, we really take the mind for granted. We assume that it will be healthy forever, and we don't take any precautionary actions to keep it healthy. If this is you, it's time to change! If you want to keep your mind sharp and memory intact as the years go by, take a look at these tips to help you do it.
Eat For It
Eating junk is not good for any art of your body, and this certainly includes the brain. If you want your mind to be healthy, eat healthy. Eat plenty of vegetables, some fruit, and lots of lean meat. It can also be good to eat foods with omega-3 fatty acids or fish oil. These are specifically good for the brain and can be found in foods such as nuts, fatty fish, or as a supplement.
Practice
If you want to keep the mind sharp, you have to use it. There are many ways that this can be done, so just find something that works for you. One great way to continuously use the mind is to do puzzles, word searches, crossword puzzles, and other brain games. This is a fun way to keep the mind sharp, and it can be done for the rest of your life. You can also engage the mind by learning something new. Sign up for foreign language lessons, learn to paint, take a pottery class. The more engaged the brain, the easier it is to keep it healthy.
Keep It Clean
There's solid research to support the idea that toxins in the air, food, and water are causing mental health issues as we age. Though the final verdict is still in the air, it's a good idea to protect yourself as much as possible. Filter your water, avoid obvious toxins in your diet, and use an air purifier. The cleaner your body and environment, the better it's going to be for your brain -- and your health in general.
We're all going to want sharp minds as we age. We want to remember the good times, learn new things, and keep ourselves young. Use these tips to protect your brain and encourage better health, and you may be able to enjoy a healthy mind for years to come.
