How to Exercise More Without a Second Thought

By Genevieve Cunningham

We all know that exercise is important. But if we're being totally honest, sometimes we just don't feel like doing it. We don't like the thought of hitting the gym. We don't like the thought of breaking a sweat. We just don't want to exercise. Unfortunately, we really need to stay moving in order to maintain good health throughout our lives. So how can we do this? How do we exercise without the dread? If you're interested in getting more exercise without really giving it much thought, take a look at these great ways to sneak it in.

Walk Like It's Your Only Transportation

Once upon a time, we walked everywhere. Seriously, we walked everywhere all of the time. While we no longer have to rely on our feet as our sole means of transportation, we really need to keep walking for good health. If you need to get more movement, just make a goal of walking more. Walk the two blocks instead of driving. Park at the back of the lot instead of circling. Walk to the TV instead of using the remote. It's a hard adjustment to make for some people, but it can really help you get more movement without making it a separate part of your day.

Get Hobbies That Are Active

If you enjoy your exercise, you're way more likely to do it. One great way to get movement is to make sure your hobbies are active. Try Frisbee golf. Try nature walking. Try swimming. Find a hobby that is fun and requires activity. As you get more involved in your hobby, you'll also get more movement, and your health will improve without deliberate effort on your part to make it happen.

Get Involved Around Town

We used to be much more involved in town than we are now. We used to take part in things. We don't do this as much, but why not start? Find a club or organization with a purpose that feels good to you, and then get involved. This might mean going to meetings, attending public events, or even volunteering. It's a great way to give yourself purpose, become a part of the community, and get more movement all in one.

We really have to move. If we don't get enough movement in our lives, we begin to lose the ability. Use these tips to get a little more exercise without dreading that trip to the gym. With some natural movement, you can burn calories and keep your body healthy while enjoying every minute of your new active life.
