3 Tips to Get Your Kids Sleeping Soundly
By Genevieve Cunningham
If you don't have kids, it's easy to imagine these sweet little faces giving hugs all day, sleeping soundly at night, and posing for the perfect pictures. If you do have kids, you know all of that is complete nonsense. Sure, kids offer up plenty of Kodak moments, but they also offer a ton of work. And sleeping all night? Dream on, my friend. Kids, though they'll exhaust every fiber of you, will spend plenty of time awake at night, which can be even more exhausting. If you need some help getting your kids to sleep at night, take a look at these helpful tips.
They Probably Need More
The bottom line is that your kid is probably not getting enough rest. Kids need massive amounts of sleep compared to adults. It’s possible, depending on their age and activity level, that they need as many as 12 hours. Unless your child has an incredibly early bedtime, they probably aren't getting quite that many. If you want to help them, set them a relatively early bedtime and stick to it. The more sleep that your child gets, the more likely they are to be healthy and cooperative.
Limit Technology Use
A lot of kids use too much technology. Phones, TV, tablets. It's a lot. This stimulates their brains and keeps them wired. Many children even become demanding and angry and irritable after excessive technology consumption. If you want your kids to sleep, you need to limit technology use for a few hours before bed. You might be surprised at how much this boosts sleep as well as behavior.
Make Their Bedroom Sleep Inducing
The more sleep-inducing their environment, the better off they’ll be. Make sure their bed is made and comfortable. Make sure the lights are off and the TV is off. Make sure that the room is a comfortable temperature -- not too hot or too cold. Experiment with their room and surroundings until you find just the combination to help them sleep.
The better your kids sleep, the happier and healthier they'll be on a daily basis. They'll do better at school and with friends and with life in general. Use these tips to help them get better rest, and you may find better health and better moods for everyone involved.
