Vacationing Without Back Pain: 4 Tips to Follow
By Virginia Laird
Like many across the nation, you may already have planned a summer vacation. Although you may be looking forward to your destination and the adventures which lie in store there, you may be dreading the thought of back pain that can accompany these types of trips. Chiropractors suggest there are many ways to prevent such pain from taking over the entire trip. A few tips provided include:
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes
- Allow time to take breaks
- Get plenty of sleep while on vacation
- Head to the chiropractor
Wear Comfortable Clothes and Shoes
Although the idea of dressing to impress for vacation may sound like fun, chiropractors suggest it is best to wear comfortable clothes while traveling. Wearing clothes which are too tight or restrict movement can be the culprit of back pain. Likewise, it is equally vital to wear comfortable and supportive shoes. Research suggests that shoes indeed play a key factor in preventing back pain.
Allow Time to Take Breaks
Whether you are flying to your destination or road tripping, it is important to make time to allow for breaks and stretching. Research suggests that sitting for too long can cause tension to build in the body which can lead to pain. For those making a road trip for vacation, plan ahead for breaks which allow time to stretch, walk, and be out of the car for at least 30 minutes every few hours. If you are one who is hopping on a plane, make sure you get out of your seat and stretch for a few minutes during any lengthy flight.
Get Plenty of Sleep While on Vacation
While many would prefer packing the most into each day of vacation, chiropractors advise it is best to make sure you get plenty of sleep too. Research suggests as the body tires, it is more vulnerable to injury, pain, and other things which can put a damper on vacation plans. Experts suggest that the average adult should get at least 6 hours of sleep each night. Children require much more. While you are on your vacation, be sure to make getting plenty of sleep a top priority.
Head to the Chiropractor
