Why Some People Are So Magnetic
By Sandy Schroeder
When we start talking about magnetic people, it’s easy to be envious. You know. They are the ones that never miss a beat in a conversation, and they always know what to say when there’s an awkward moment.
If you envy them, too, you might look at what makes them tick, and discover you already have many of the same qualities.
Here’s how they do it.
They always reach out instead of hesitating - I have a friend like that who never hesitates to connect. She is always out there helping someone, or getting involved in something new. When one thing does not work out, she moves on and finds a whole new project or group of people.
They know how to listen and actually do - I worked with a lady like this. Everyone in the office thought she was their personal friend. Actually she was everybody’s friend, because she always found time to actually listen when someone needed to talk. When she retired, the list of speakers and table full of gifts told the real story. Everyone there was sorry to see her go because she had been their friend.
They enjoy life wherever they are - No matter where they go they usually have a good time, because they are open to what’s out there. It may not be perfect, but it might be interesting. I have a friend who is totally curious about people. He is always open to the moment, and the first one to break the ice with good questions. Not surprisingly, he has an incredible network of interesting people.
They are confident - They have learned enough along the way to know that they can usually make things work. When a new project or a bigger challenge comes up, they don’t expect to master it immediately, but they are willing to give it a try. Often they learn as they go and are humble enough to say so if they don’t know the answer.
They always have energy - Some people just naturally start the day expecting things to be good. That perspective often brings them positive things that spark their energy and fuel their interests.
They give it their all - They say if you want a job done give it to a busy person. If you have worked with someone like this you know they are the first to arrive and the last to leave when there is work to be done. People learn to count on them and are happy to have them on board.
The most magnetic people that I know are the ones who look for the best in others wherever they go. Uually they find it.
