The Real Gold in the Hills of Health May Be Water

By Tom Herrin

A lot of people look for that pot of gold.  It is an expression meaning that they hope to find something that takes little or no effort yet brings big results.  Many others call this a pipe dream because it is something that seems out of reach while they hang their hats on the possible results.  When it comes to health, some people obviously have some major problems.  Others may be able to head off potential problems by doing a few things that may support better health all of the time.  One of the easiest things they can do is to drink more water.  It is usually inexpensive and relatively easy to come by, but it can do all kinds of things for good health.

It May Make Physical Performance Peak

Many times, people don't realize just how important water is to getting the most out of their bodies.  Even though they know it is something they must have, they may fail to realize the connection between water and just what they are trying to achieve.  Many coaches and trainers spend a great deal of time planning workouts that take into consideration how often they should take water breaks and how much they should drink.  It has been found that even as little as a 2 percent loss of the body's water can have an effect on health.  Many athletes may lose as much as 10 percent of their water a day.  This can result in a change in body temperature, extreme fatigue, confusion, and a number of other things.

It May Help Prevent Headaches

Many people are stricken with headaches.  The causes vary widely, but some people may suffer from them due to a lack of enough water.  Minor dehydration can occur while people don't even realize it.  For some of these people, drinking more water may help to lessen headaches or prevent them completely.  It is actually more common for people to have headaches due to this than many may believe.  Drinking more water on a regular basis may be a sure way for these individuals to improve their overall feeling of well-being.

It Can Help With Managing Weight

Some people have difficulty with their weight simply because they fail to drink enough water.  They continue to reach for some snack when they are actually thirsty.  The consequences can be bad.  I try to drink as much water as possible.  I increase this even more when I am trying to lose weight.  I drink a full glass of water before I go to bed and as soon as I get up in the morning.  I know it helps to thin the blood as I get older as this is a problem for many people.  If you are in that boat as well, drink up.
