Looking for a Harder Workout? Try These!

By Genevieve Cunningham

It's all too easy to slack off in your workout routine. So many times, we feel like as long as we're doing something, we're doing enough. But if we allow ourselves to get too comfortable, we're setting ourselves up for failure. Or maybe not failure, but definitely for a setback in results. So what can we do? We have to pick up the pace and challenge ourselves! If you're looking for a harder workout to keep yourself moving forward in your fitness success, try these workouts as soon as you can.

Martial Arts

Any kind of martial arts is an incredible workout. You'll be using so much of your body. Some kinds of martial arts require leg work, some use the arm muscles, but all of them will center around your core. Choose anything that looks interesting -- karate, kickboxing, jiu jitsu, or try them all. You may find a workout you love and learn to protect yourself all at the same time.

Swimming

Any kind of workout in the water is automatically more challenging. The water creates resistance, and the more resistance you have, the harder your muscles have to work. If you like to swim, just find a pool that offers an opportunity for lap swimming. If you like structure, find a pool with a water aerobics class. Working out in the water is great for the muscles, and even better for endurance as your stamina is tested and improved over time.

Cycling

Whether you choose a regular Spin class, a solitary stationary bike, or check out a Soul Cycle studio, cycling is hard work. Your leg muscles will burn. You'll drop calories. You'll sweat. But these classes can also be a lot of fun. They're often set to fun music with a fast beat to keep you motivated and your heart pumping. If you like the idea of massive leg work, big calorie burn, or something classic with a fun twist, check out a cycling class near you.

You can get in a hard, challenging, body-stimulating workout while still having fun. And changing up your routine is so good for your body and your mind. Use these tough workouts to up your fitness game and feel more challenged and more successful than ever before.
