Appreciating Springtime Gardens

By Donna Stark

Spring has sprung! The season of flowers, bees, and pollen is finally here and what better way to celebrate this beautiful time of change than to start showing your appreciation for outdoor gardens. April is National Gardening Month after all, so the timing couldn't be any more perfect! And, whether you are a green thumb or not, there are so many ways to show your love for nature and gardening. From buying fruits and vegetables at your local farmers market to designing your own garden, it is easy to grow your love for the outdoors. Here are a few ways on how you can best celebrate National Gardening Month.

Plant Your Own Garden

Although it may seem complex, planting a garden is relatively simple and can provide you with fresh food, beautiful views, and a sense of accomplishment. The fresh food grown from your garden can help reduce grocery expenses, encourage you to eat more, and improve your overall health and wellness. Gardening is also a natural stress reliever and a great excuse to get outdoors. All around, it's the perfect start to a path of healthy living.

Buy From Local Farms

If you're not into the whole "getting dirty and spending long hours taking care of your garden" then another great way to celebrate spring is to buy your produce from other people's gardens, like your local farmers. Some of the world's most unsung heroes are our community's farmers and a great way to appreciate them is to purchase their produce. Besides, locally grown food has more nutrients and is packed full of flavor!

Participate In Outdoor Activities

Enjoying the outdoors is a great way to experience all of the springtime gardens! Something as simple as going on a walk and looking at the flowers can help reduce stress and give you the opportunity to get some much-needed Vitamin D. The outdoors certainly has a powerful impact on both your physical and mental well-being.

Create Natural Habitats

Another benefit of creating a garden is all of the wildlife it will bring to your backyard. Help the bees by planting plenty of beautiful flowers and entice your favorite birds by hanging some bird feeders from your trees. Who knows? You may even encourage some visits from rabbits and chipmunks too! But take the necessary precautions to protect your vegetable garden if that's what you are planting! You certainly don't want them to eat through all of your food!

Spring Is for Gardens!

Hopefully, with the suggestions above, you can find a couple of ways to show your appreciation for gardening before it gets too hot outside! Spring has definitely sprung and there are so many ways to enjoy it!
