Ending the Year on a Healthy Note

By Donna Stark

Even though it feels as if we have been hibernating for months now, the time for some serious "hunkering down" is right around the corner, and it's easy to tell because the clues are all around us. The air is getting chillier, the trees are starting to shed their beautiful leaves, and the days are becoming shorter. But before you reach for the heated blankets and logs for the fireplace, it's important to prioritize self-care. You definitely want to end this year on a better note than how it started and it's easy with the following suggestions. Take a look at how you can prepare your mind and body for the colder months ahead.

Practice Gratitude

It's easy to lose sight of what is important in your life if you keep yourself shuttered away, so take the time to practice gratitude. Whether you do so every day or every week, thinking about the things that bring value to your life, appreciating what you are grateful for, and committing to taking an active role in your life's journey, may help you weather the months ahead of you with more joy.

Nourish Your Body

There is no better time to fill your life with flavor and your body with amazing nourishment than the fall season. Warm your body with broths and soups that support the immune system, fill up on vitamins and minerals with the season's top vegetables, and pull out those incredible spices, like turmeric and ginger! Your body will certainly thank you for it at the end of the day!

Get Fresh Air

Improve your physical, mental, and emotional health by staying in tune with nature, even if you need to grab an extra jacket! Head outdoors for a walk in the leaves, visit your local orchard, or rake up a pile of leaves. Staying physically active outdoors can help improve immunity, reduce stress, and connect you with others.

Maintain Sleep Cycles

With the days becoming shorter and life's natural tendency to slow down in the cooler months, it's important to stick to your normal sleep cycle. Make sure you continue to wake up and go to bed at the same time every morning and night. Keep up with your normal bedtime routine, and if you find that you are struggling, take note of any behaviors that need to be changed.

Fall Wellness

It's the season to reflect and take care of yourself! Prioritize your well-being during these next few months so that you can step into the new year feeling better and healthier than ever before!
