Looking to Be Healthier in 2018? Make These Changes
By Virginia Laird
Health, happiness, and a host of other resolutions may be what you are planning to focus on as the new year gets under way. As you plan to prioritize your specific goals, it may be wise to put your health related ones at the top of the list. Each year, millions across the nation set out to be a healthier person. While not everyone knows where to begin or how to stick to the plan of action, it is important to know you can be successful. Healthcare professionals have made several suggestions of where and how to begin transforming into a healthier you in 2018. These suggestions include:
- Drink more water
- Cut out the sugar
- Make exercise a priority
Drink More Water
Water is the best choice for beverage when concerning your health. Many health experts suggest that you should consume at least half of your weight in ounces daily. Research reports that far too many people choose beverages other than water to quench their thirst. This inevitably adds unnecessary calories to the diet. Choose water and start improving your health today.
Cut Out the Sugar
There is some discussion in the health world about the effects of sugar on the body. The one thing both sides of the debate agree upon is that an excess of sugar can cause serious side effects. Some of these side effects include:
- Weight gain
- Onset of diabetes
- Sugar addiction is expensive
Make Exercise a Priority
Exercise plays a vital role in staying healthy. Many believe that routine exercise begins with a gym membership. However, this is not entirely true. While you can make that investment, exercise begins with the willpower and desire to change. Something as simple as a walk through your neighborhood can be beneficial in helping you to begin a routine workout. Fitness experts suggest those who may struggle with staying with such a routine should enlist a workout buddy. The buddy system is great, as it provides you with someone to hold you accountable and give a little push when needed.
There is no better time than the beginning of the year to set some goals and plan a path to success. Now is the time to set out on your path to a healthier you. If you think you may struggle with a lot of change at once, pick just one healthy change to make at a time. Once you have mastered it, add another. Before long you will have successfully become healthier. You can do it!
