The Connection to Physical Healing
By Donna Kostiew
It never fails. As soon as everything in my home is running smoothly, something inevitably stops working. Or my children have a day in which they have fooled around one too many times and end up breaking yet another thing. Of course, it never happens at a good time either … if there even is a good time for such things to occur. But sometimes, I just wish these things could fix themselves. You know, kind of like the way our bodies do.
Have you ever stopped to think about how amazing your body is? How, if given the right tools, it can “fix” itself? The human body has the incredible ability to heal itself. Examples of this include after it sustains a cut, when it is sick, or during a serious trauma. But how does that happen?
The Connections
There are two kinds of connections that our body makes. The first one is based on our conscious thoughts and actions. The second connection is what our body does on its own. It’s the “rally call” that we often don’t hear.
How we know to reach for that Band-Aid - The very second after we hurt ourselves, our body sends a message through the nervous system, to the spinal cord, and then finally to the brain. It is at this point that the brain responds back with its own message on what to do, or how to handle the event that just occurred. Perhaps when we receive that communication, we head to the first aid kit to get a Band-Aid or some gauze. Or we run to the sink to flush our eyes out with water. Whatever action is taken, it is solely because the brain received a communication and responded back in kind, thereby causing us to move into action.
The silent fight – During the time that we are consciously moving to control the situation, our body is immediately waging war against the injury or illness. Without even realizing it, your body is springing into a defensive stance that is filled with automatic biological and chemical reactions that occur to assist in your healing. Blood is clotting, infections and inflammation are being attacked, and damaged cells are mending. The body is working at healing itself. And we don’t have a say in the matter.
But what if something is blocking these connections?
