How to Keep Your Motivation Levels High

By Donna Stark

Are you struggling to find the motivation you need to stick to your New Year's resolutions? If so, you aren't alone. There are many people who are finding it hard to stick to their original commitments too. And although it's completely normal for motivation to wane off, that doesn't mean you need to open the door and wave goodbye. There are several things you can do to regain and keep it around for as long as you would like. Take a look at the following suggestions from your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic.

Reward Yourself

Everyone likes to be rewarded when they do something good, so go ahead and give yourself a treat for sticking to your resolution. But be careful in doing so. Remember, you are trying to improve your health, so you don't want your treat to sabotage all your hard work. If your goal is to hit the gym every morning, treat yourself to that book you wanted instead of those fancy coffee beverages you love to drink.

Be Accountable

Whether it is to yourself or another person, an easy way to stay motivated is to bring accountability into the picture. You can do this by working with a personal trainer, checking in with a family member, or asking a friend to join in. This is a great way to include others on your journey or to help family and friends get healthy alongside you.

Set Realistic Goals

It's pretty hard to stay motivated when the goals you choose for yourself are unrealistic. Goals that are too hard to attain can leave you feeling discouraged and defeated, and you may feel like quitting before things even get started. It's vital to choose your goals wisely and to set a realistic timeline for when you want to achieve them.

Journal Small Achievements

When you spend a lot of time working towards a goal, it can be hard to remember where you started from, and as a result, it can be difficult to determine exactly how far you have come. That's why it's important to keep a record of the small achievements you have made along the way. By looking back at all the gains you've achieved, no matter how small, you may be encouraged to keep at it!

Motivation Is Key

Finding the motivation to try something new is oftentimes a lot easier than maintaining it over a long period of time, but with the tips above, you won't have any trouble keeping it around and smashing the goals you set for yourself. Good luck!
