Make a Better Situation While Staying Home

By Tom Herrin

For sure, staying home more has become a way of life for many people.  It is sort of a new normal.  In doing so, a lot has had to change in this society that has become so accustomed to freedoms.  Looking around, it is easy to see how people have quickly become discouraged and felt as if they have been unfairly restricted.  Even as times are difficult, it is necessary to be able to make the best situation possible out of this adversity.  The one thing for certain is that there seem to be plenty of opportunities.  For many, the downside is that they no longer have the excuse of having too little time at home for family.  It is there, and they may as well make the most out of it.

Chat More

If people are occupying the same space much of the day, why not talk more?  It is truly a test for many, but sharing conversation rather than carrying it on by way of some device may actually be new to some.  It is surprising what people can learn about others when they simply talk.  One of the good ways to do this is to engage in some kind of game or activity that has some down time.  Some of the older board games can be fine.  There are many others to choose from.  For those who are having to purchase one, they may be bought for only $10 or so.  If not much of a game player, doing some kind of craft or making something together will serve a similar purpose.

Physical Activity May Be a Big Part of Staying Healthy

If people are forming new habits, adding exercise to their routines can be an important part.  Taking turns leading the activity may help everyone to feel included.  These may be some creative and different things, too.  Active games, dances, gardening, or some others may fit into the schedule and break monotony.  If everyone enjoys it and sees results, they are more likely to continue once things go back to more near normal.

Have Some Kind of Fun

Traditions have to begin somewhere.  Why not start them now?  We generally have a tradition of eating a meal together in the evening.  It is a great time for talking.  We often remain there for quite some time.  It works well for us.  It is one of the best times we have for a more casual conversation with one another.
