Why You Need Time Outside Every Day
By Genevieve Cunningham
The dead of summer, the dead of winter. These are two times when going outside sounds terrible. But the fall? Almost nothing sounds better at this time of year. The winds are cooler, the leaves are changing, and the vibe is like no other. In fact, this is a great time to incorporate the new healthy habit of spending time outdoors. But besides enjoying the great weather, why should the great outdoors be a part of our lives? Take a look at these three great reasons to turn off the TV and get outside right now.
Your Body Needs Vitamin D
Your body can't live without Vitamin D. Unfortunately this is a vitamin that doesn’t come naturally in very many foods. Instead, our main source of Vitamin D is the sun. When we go outside, our bodies soak in the rays of the sun, and this helps us to get enough of this essential vitamin. Without it, we may feel aches in our bones, confusion in our minds, or even a feeling of depression. The need for Vitamin D is so great, it’s reason enough to get outdoors a little bit every day.
Your Mind Needs Fresh Air
Fresh air is soothing to the mind, body, and soul. When the fresh air is clean, it can even help to clear our minds and help us focus. Try stepping outside in the mornings and taking a few deep breaths of fresh air. Chances are good that when you go back inside you'll feel a bit more energized and focused. Getting a little fresh air is a great way to clear the mind, lower your stress levels, and feel a bit more calm with the craziness of everyday life.
Your Mood Needs a Break From the Norm
Going outside can significantly boost your mood. When you see the same four walls day in and day out, or you only see the inside of your car, the inside of your office, and the inside of your home, it can get very dull and boring. And this often leads to poor moods. If you want a little bit of emotional stability, try getting outside and relaxing. Even a simple five minutes is enough to make you feel a bit less stress and a bit happier in the moment.
The great outdoors can be quite therapeutic if you allow it. And with the beautiful season approaching, there's no excuse to miss it. Make a little time for nature in your life, and you'll likely see your health improve like never before.
