3 Effective Moves You Can Do With Handheld Weights

Contrary to popular belief, you don't actually have to have a gym membership to work out and get fit. Getting in shape can be done in the comfort of your own home. But you'll definitely need some equipment to make this happen. If you're not keen on spending an arm and a leg, you may be able to make do with simple handheld weights. But what can you do with them? If you would like to get in better shape with the use of handheld weights, take a look at these three moves that you can start doing today.

Lunges and Squats

Lunges and squats are excellent lower body exercises. In fact, for many people, these moves are the go-to for building the bottom half of the body. They help to build strong hamstrings, quadriceps, and gluteal muscles. And when you add handheld weights to these moves, it adds to the intensity just a bit. While it won't build the muscles as quickly as heavy weights, you’ll still get a good challenging workout.

Bicep Curls

Handheld weights may be all you ever need for bicep curls. This exercise is a great one for building up the bicep muscles and developing overall arm strength. They’re tough, but not too tough to handle on your own. Though it will be tempting, don't start with weights that are too heavy. Start light, and work your way up to heavier weights. Starting too much too quickly will tire you out and may cause injury.

Chest Fly

The chest fly is a great exercise for strengthening the pectoral muscles. And the stronger the pectoral muscles, the stronger and tighter the chest will appear. This is an excellent move for doing at home, and it is especially good for handheld weights. Just as you did with bicep curls, start light and increase weight and intensity when you're ready.

Though a gym can be a great tool for getting fit, it's not necessary. Helpful? Sure! But with the right equipment, you can get fit at home, and more importantly, for a lot less money!
