Dr. Michael J. Chiccone became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2020 when he began serving residents in Aventura.
“The best thing about being a chiropractor is you get to help people without the use of drugs or surgery,” he says. “So many people suffer needlessly, and to see the look on their faces when you are able to help them with a decade’s old problem is fantastic.”
Dr. Chiccone was raised in Fort Lauderdale and attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Professionally, he spent 30 years in private practice in Plantation and even started his own radio show, “Ultimate Health,” that ran for six years on WWNN 980-AM. In his spare time he loves freshwater fishing for largemouth bass, catfish, and peacock bass, among others. He also enjoys working out at the gym and engaging in the martial arts; in fact, he possesses two black belts.
He received his doctorate from Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, Ga., and graduated cum laude; he had previously gotten his associate of arts degree at Broward College.
First-hand experience led him into the chiropractic field. “My mother was a chiropractic patient when she was a young woman,” he says. “Her chiropractor from New Jersey had retired to South Florida and we went to visit him in the mid-1970s. I was just blown away by his knowledge and philosophy. He adjusted me that day and from then on, I was hooked.”
One of Dr. Chiccone’s most memorable moments came from working with a golfer who had been struck by lightning. “He had been to every medical doctor -- and then some -- but nobody could help him with his lower back pain,” he says. “We analyzed him and … when he got off the table, he stood straight up and a look came over his face of pure amazement and relief. He was in utter disbelief; within a few weeks, he was perfectly fine.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Chiccone says the one thing he can’t do without is cheese: “It makes for a great late night snack.”
He says he would love to sit down to dinner with George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, and Leonardo da Vinci and learn all they had to offer. In the course of that conversation, he would probably tell them about the most memorable thing he has done: “I saved a man’s life who was drowning,” he says. “I was in the Keys and heard someone, way out in the water, crying for help. I had to swim out to him and drag him back in against the current and it damn near drowned me!"
Dr. Paul Shlugman was born and raised in Ukraine. He was a professional gymnast and attended Sports Institute in Ukraine. After he immigrated to United States, he went to Miami Dade Community College and then to Florida International University for his undergraduate studies, before attending Life University school of Chiropractic where he graduated Cum Laude in 1999.
Dr. Shlugman has been practicing as a Chiropractic Physician for 22 years. He’s also board certified in Acupuncture, and is currently working on his certification in Functional Diagnostic Medicine. Dr. Shlugman speaks three languages English, Russian and Spanish.
During his spare time, Dr. Shlugman likes playing tennis and soccer, and enjoys spending time with his family.
Dr. Jan Buchholz has been a practicing chiropractor for over 30 years. He graduated from Life Chiropractic in 1990, beginning his journey as an experienced doctor. Initially, Dr. Jan was studying to become a dentist, until he had a severe lower back injury while working. His sister had suggested he try chiropractic treatment to alleviate his back pain, and after receiving his first adjustment, he completely fell in love with chiropractic care, applied to chiropractic school and the rest is history!
Dr. Jan's usage of unique techniques and extensive knowledge of the spine allows him to leave each and every patient satisfied and well-informed about the importance of chiropractic care and wellness. Throughout his career, Dr. Jan has performed around a quarter of a million adjustments on people of all ages and conditions. He continues to alleviate the pain and solve the chiropractic issues of patients all over South Florida.
In his free time, Dr. Jan enjoys working in his yard, traveling, cruising with his family and listening to classic rock music. He is a part of the Broward County Chiropractic Society.
Dr. Jan is originally from Brooklyn, New York and currently resides in Tamarac, Florida.
