Ensuring a Safe Day at the Beach
By Donna Stark
Are you heading to the beach this summer? If so, lucky you! The beach is the perfect place to relax in the sand with a book, take a stroll on the boardwalk, or jump in the waves with your children. But while you are having the time of your life, don't forget to ensure everyone's safety and well-being. Here are some tips from your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic that will help your time at the beach stay as healthy as possible.
The "Safer" Times
If there is one thing to remember about the summer sun, it's that there is a right time to be in it. The sun is at its strongest (and most damaging) during certain hours of the day, so if you want to play it safe, avoid being outside between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you must be outside during that time, make sure you have plenty of shade to sit under. Rent a cabana on the beach or bring along an umbrella or two.
The Proper Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a must if you plan on spending any time on the beach. Most experts recommend applying a sunscreen that has an SPF of 15 or higher before you head outdoors. It is also recommended that you reapply throughout the day, especially if you are in the water or sweating a lot. But the most important thing to remember is to apply it to the sensitive parts of your body, such as your ears, nose, forehead, feet, and lips. You will be glad you did!
The Right Clothes
Along with sunscreen, wearing the right kind of clothes can help protect your skin too! Cover your body with light-colored, loose clothing and wear a hat to reduce the risk of sun damage. Make sure the clothing is either made from moisture-wicking material or includes SPF in the fabric for the highest level of protection.
The Healthiest Drink
Skip the sodas and energy drinks and stick with water while enjoying your day at the beach. Staying adequately hydrated is vital for your overall health and wellness, especially during the heat of the summer, so make sure you pack enough for everyone! And if you have picky drinkers, just infuse each water bottle with citrus, berries, or cucumbers. Your loved ones won't even miss their favorite sodas because your flavored water will definitely hit the spot!
A Great Day at the Beach
Spending a day at the beach is a great way to reduce stress, hang out with loved ones, and energize your body, but only if you keep it as safe as possible! So, go ahead and take the proper precautions and get ready to have the time of your life!
