Chiropractic Care for Pregnant Women

By Paul Rothbart

Expecting a child is one of the most exciting, emotional times in anyone's life. It can even be a little scary. It promotes a whirlwind of feelings. I still remember The thrill of waiting for my son to be born more than three decades ago. Naturally, it's harder on the woman who is carrying the child. It can cause physical, mental, and emotional stress. Many women continue to work and do all of their usual tasks while supporting this new life. I can't imagine how tough that must be. Pregnant mothers can use some extra help. Chiropractic care may be able to provide that.

Back Problems

With a child growing in the womb, a woman's abdominal area naturally grows larger. She weighs more from the child but also may retain water. Most of this extra weight is concentrated on the front of the midsection. This can and usually does strain the lower back. It can also put an unnatural curve in the spine, causing subluxations and disc compression. As the spinal cord is inside the column, this can put pressure on the nerves bringing on pain and tingling in the limbs, hands, and feet. That's a lot to deal with. A chiropractor can find any spinal issues and make adjustments that will get the spine straight thus reducing pain and nerve pinching.

Sleep

Sleep is always important, but when you're sleeping for two, even more so. During pregnancy, you can never get too much rest. Many chiropractic patients report that they sleep better when receiving regular treatments. A properly adjusted spine and limbs will be far less painful and can help you to relax better and fall asleep faster. Without the tingling to wake you up, you can get a better night's sleep which will certainly help make the pregnancy a little easier.

Stress

Carrying a growing baby is a huge responsibility and very stressful. Add to that the preparations for the arrival of the child, the 18 years or so of raising your little one, and the hormonal changes and pregnancy can wreak havoc with your anxiety levels. Chiropractic care has been known to make stress easy to manage. With less pain, you have less to worry about. Some patients have found that seeing a chiropractor can even help ease nausea.

Pregnancy is a wonderful experience for many couples, but very hard on the mom-to-be. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. You don't need an appointment. You may find that seeing a chiropractor makes waiting for your bundle of joy a little less painful.
