Vacation Canceled? Have a Staycation Instead!
By Brandi Goodman
Sometimes plans get cancelled. It's disappointing, but unavoidable. Just because your vacation got cancelled, though, doesn't mean you can't still find ways to enjoy your time. Plan a staycation instead so you can have an enjoyable experience right from home while boosting your mental health.
Order Out
If you'd be ordering food from your hotel or going out to eat while on vacation, then continue that tradition from home. Plenty of restaurants offer delivery or takeout so you can eat well without having to cook. That's a big part of wanting a vacation for many people, after all. You want to skip the routine daily dinners and have someone else do the cooking for once.
Change the Decor
Having the same decor set up as normal won't get you in the vacation mood when you're in your own home. Change up the decor with some cheap options to enhance the feel. Put up some different curtains. Add photos to the walls of beaches and blue skies. Put a new sheet set and comforter on the bed. Just having a different look to the room can be great for the mood.
Schedule a Luxury Service
Perhaps you would've gotten a massage on your getaway. You most likely would have had a housekeeper tidying up your room. Schedule these luxury services for yourself at home so you don't have to miss out. Having a housekeeper do your chores for you will help you avoid doing housework while you're supposed to be taking time away from the daily grind. A professional massage can be incredibly relaxing. Both services are worth splurging on.
Pitch a Backyard Tent
Camping might have been your plan. You don't have to find a campground in order to go. You can pitch a tent right in your own back yard and still enjoy the outdoors. Try to stay outside the entire time you would have while actually camping, only going inside if need be for the bathroom or shower. Even keep a cooler with your food like you normally would have and get a fire going to do your cooking. S'mores, anyone?
Your vacation plans may get cancelled this summer, but that doesn't have to mean they're completely done for. Plan a fun staycation at home that lets you feel as though you're away from the real world. It's great for your mental well-being.
