Try These Tips to Improve Your Health

By Paul Rothbart

Staying healthy is an important goal for anyone. Most people know the three main ingredients of good health: a balanced diet, regular exercise, and good sleep. Indeed all of these things will do a good job of keeping you in good health. But there are other lesser-known things that can add to boosting your health. Here are some you can try.

Get Enough Iron

Iron deficiencies are more common than you may think. This essential mineral helps build healthy red blood cells and strengthens muscles. It also helps provide energy. An iron deficiency can cause you to feel fatigued and even depressed. Lean meats are an excellent source of iron as are lentils and oatmeal. You can also take a vitamin supplement that contains iron.

Get Some Caffeine

Like anything else, too much caffeine is not good for you. But there are health benefits to having a cup of coffee or two each morning. You can drink tea if you prefer. In addition to the well-known energy boost it provides, caffeine can speed up your metabolism and also contains antioxidants. These plant compounds fight free radicals in the body that can damage cells and cause chronic disease. So make that stop at the coffee shop guilt-free.

Add Some Spice

Spicy foods are loaded with flavor but can also provide you with some nice benefits. They can speed up your metabolism helping you lose weight and keep it off. Try some mustard instead of mayonnaise. Add Mexican or Thai food to your weekly menus. There's a whole world of spice out there that will appeal to your taste buds and your waistline.

Work Out at Your Desk

You may have lots of busy days, stuck at your desk without time for a workout. But you can still get in some exercise right there in your office. You can do crunches while in your desk chair. Do sitting push-ups using the edge of your desk. You can run in place, do squats, and stretch. Get creative. There is a lot you can do while still looking at your computer screen.

Hydrate

You hear it all the time but it's true. Staying well-hydrated will improve your health. Doctors recommend drinking eight glasses of water a day. You don't have to do it all at once. Sip it a glass at a time over the course of an entire day. You can drink water easily while doing almost anything. It's a simple way to get a big health benefit.

Nothing is more important than your health. Diet, exercise, and sleep are the big three, but there are many other little things you can do every day to improve your health. Don't neglect them. They add up.
