4 Tips for a Healthy Party
By Brandi Goodman
Some people throw parties often throughout the year. A New Year's party, Super Bowl party, random dinner party, birthday party, and lots of other holiday parties are on the list for many households. No matter what type you're hosting, it's important to consider some tips to make the occasion a bit healthier for all involved.
Serve a Meal Instead of Finger Foods
Serving an entire meal makes it easier for guests to fill up and avoid eating the rest of the time. You don't just want everyone standing around the table snacking on finger foods throughout the night. People are more likely to overeat and take in too many calories this way. Serve a nutritious meal that will keep everyone satisfied. A lean meat such as chicken or turkey can be the entree with salad and some other fruits and veggies as sides.
Offer Plain and Infused Water
Water should be the main beverage served at your party. It will keep your guest's thirst quenched without having them drinking down extra calories. Some people aren't okay with plain water so be sure to have some infused options. Infuse your water with different fruits and herbs for unique flavor combinations. You can let everyone know that water will be served so people can bring their own beverage if they desire.
Keep Food and Entertainment Separate
You don't want a table of food right in reach from your entertainment area. If you have people over watching a game, for example, don't put the food table near the TV. Make it so they have to go to the kitchen to eat and they can get away from the food after. It will ensure people are eating less.
Incorporate Exercise
There's lots of ways you can incorporate exercise into your party. It may be as simple as turning up some music and getting people up to dance. You can also encourage game playing. You wouldn't want everyone sitting around playing cards but having a dart board out or a bean bag toss game can help get people on their feet.
Have a healthy party any time of year with some tips in mind. There's always ways to make the event healthier for yourself and your guests. You always want to be sure everyone is accommodated and plenty of healthy food choices are involved along with opportunities for exercise so the party can be worthwhile for everybody.
