Stretch Your Body to Match Your Imagination
By Sandy Schroeder
Most of us have a perfect image in our heads of what we almost look like. Of course, that image might be 15 pounds lighter and several inches taller, but that’s not the point. That image keeps us going, eating healthier and stretching our bodies to get better results.
The dividends of stretching really can produce some positive results that help us get closer to our goals.
Freer movement – When you reach up to the top shelf or bend down to pick something off of the floor, stretching will provide the needed range of motion. As we stretch, natural lubricants for the joints are released, making everything work just as it should.
Standing taller – Stretching can help us sit and stand straighter and look taller, keeping our whole body balanced and more effective.
Bendability – The more we stretch the better our muscles work as we assume yoga positions or work out at home. All of those pretzel positions that seemed out of reach may actually happen.
Circulation boost – As we stretch, our muscles relax and our blood flow improves, carrying oxygen to the whole body to generate more energy and reinforce better overall health.
Glide and go – Get the freedom of movement that you want on the court, or out on the dance floor. The more you stretch the better your body will perform.
Gain power – Keep your family and your house going, navigate everything at work, and show up for the weekend.
Shed a few years – Stretching lets you bike, dance, sail, or run with less stiffness and soreness, keeping your mind and your body in peak shape.
Score more – Wherever you love to be, in the garden, in the pool, or in the park with your kids, the more flexible your body is the better you will be.
Sidestep injury – When you stretch to keep your joints moving and the surrounding muscles strong, you are less likely to run into injuries.
As you put together a stretching routine that suits you, check with your chiropractor or your doctor to find the best plan. Start out gradually and never stretch through pain. Be consistent, stretching regularly to maintain momentum as you pick up speed and get the results you want.
