4 Ways to Improve Your Focus Right Now
By Genevieve Cunningham
There’s nothing worse than losing your focus. It happens to everyone at one point or another, but there’s no denying that it absolutely gets in the way of everyday life. Most of us just accept this inability to concentrate and do our best to live with it when it happens. But what if there were actual things that we could do to make it better? Luckily, there may be! If you’re sick of your lack of focus, take a look at these tips to help you right now.
Get Up and Move
Sometimes we just need to get away from whatever our situation is currently. If you can’t seem to find focus, get up and move. Do some jumping jacks or squats in the office. Take a walk around the block. Sometimes we need to completely change our scenery and physical location. When we get back, we may notice that focusing on that task isn’t quite as difficult anymore.
Switch Tasks
Similarly to getting up and moving, switching tasks allows us to move our thoughts and send our focus elsewhere. You might think that if you can’t focus on one task, you won’t be able to focus on another, right? But that’s not always true. Sometimes you just have to give your brain something else to think about. Switch tasks for a while, but do it completely. Don’t multitask.
Have a Little Caffeine
A little jolt of caffeine can renew your energy and make focus just a little bit easier. Grab a swig of coffee or Coca-Cola, and then try to focus again. Though we don’t want to use caffeine as a crutch, it can be incredibly beneficial in redirecting our energy and focus for a while.
Catch a Catnap
Most people really underestimate the power of a nap. When we’re tired, it can leave us severely drained of both energy and focus. If you can, catch a little catnap. A simple 10 or 20 minutes may be all it takes to refocus and get the task done. Some call it a power nap, as it gives you back your power and control over your life back again.
If you can’t focus, there may be things that you can do to get yourself back on track. Use these tips to help you out. With just a little attention to detail and some small changes in your routine, you may get your focus back and find yourself more productive than ever.
