How to Find Quick Healthy Energy in a Pinch
By Genevieve Cunningham
You won't find an adult in the world today who has enough energy. It's the one thing that everyone needs more of on a daily basis. But sometimes it's more than just needing a little bit of energy to get through the day; it's that you need more energy right now. This can be difficult, as immediate energy is hard to come by. If you find yourself needing quick spurts of energy, take a look at these healthy ways to get it.
Drink Ice Cold Water
Water, in and of itself, can be a great source of energy. When we’re dehydrated, it can make us feel quite fatigued. So it only makes sense that feeding our bodies water will create the opposite effect. But if you make that water cold, it forces the body to create quick energy in order to heat it up. Need energy now? Chug a glass of ice cold H2O, and you’ll be much more alert.
Eat Fruit or Drink Fruit Juice
Fruit is a natural sugar. While some people reach for a candy bar for quick energy, fruit has the same effect, but in a much healthier manner. Grab a piece or two of your favorite fruit, and you’ll get a quick burst of energy. If you need it even faster, reach straight for the juice, as its sugar content is more concentrated, and the liquid works much faster than having to break down the food in the stomach.
A Spoonful of Peanut Butter
With both a little sugar and a blast of protein, peanut butter is a great source of quick energy. Just grab a spoonful and eat it raw. While this definitely contains both fat and carbohydrates (also good for energy!), it’s excellent for fueling the body in a pinch. If you’re not keen on raw peanut butter, you can also eat it on a cracker or slice up an apple to enjoy with it. It's a simple, easy, and incredibly effective option.
Sometimes we need energy … and we need it right this minute! When this happens to you, don’t reach for the energy drink or caffeine pills. Use these healthy options instead. You’ll gain some energy, be able to complete the task at hand, and may even see a boost in health at the same time.
