3 Workouts That Are More Fun Than Work

By Genevieve Cunningham

When most of us think of a workout, we imagine a gym, weights, sweat, and a little bit of dread. It's not that we don't want to work out and be fit -- it's just that it's so much work! It can be difficult to make yourself get up and go. But what if working out could be fun? Would you be more likely to get the job done? Of course you would! If you want to have a little fun in your workouts, take a look at these three routines that are more fun than work -- but that will still get you fit and healthy.

Dancing

Don't be fooled. Dancing might seem like a lot of fun. It might seem like nothing more than a bunch of friends having a great time. But it's actually a lot of work. The good news is that because it's so much fun, the work is disguised. In an hour of dancing, you'll work your entire body. The legs, the arms, the core. You'll burn hundreds of calories and burn muscles you didn't know you had. If you want a workout that is a ton of work but also a ton of fun, dancing is a great place to start.

Swimming

If you haven't been swimming in a while, you might not remember how tough swimming can be. It's really taxing on the body. But if you do it the right way, it's also incredibly fun. Don't get in the pool worried about how long you're going to swim or how far or with what stroke. Get in with the intention of swimming for fun. It won't take long before you're completely worn out, but you'll have already worked massive muscles and burned so many calories. If you enjoy a good dip in the pool, use swimming as a way to get in shape while having a lot of fun.

Sports

Getting together with friends and playing some kind of sport -- soccer, football, basketball, anything! -- is both fun and a good workout. Because it's made into a game, you won't notice the burn in your body. You won't notice the breathlessness or the muscle fatigue. You'll just be focused on having a good time. If you do this once or twice every week, you'll get in some solid workouts without ever worrying over the gym or a class at all.

Staying in shape and keeping your health moving in a positive direction does not have to be a chore. It doesn't have to be boring or excessively rigid. It can just be fun! Use these activities to make the fitness process more fun than work, and you'll have a much better chance of staying fit for the rest of your life.
