How to Enjoy Healthier Foods
By Donna Stark
If you are like most people, you would probably like to eat healthy meals as often as you could. But that doesn't mean you are ready and willing to give up your favorite comfort and snack foods, does it? After all, it would be hard to imagine eating your sandwiches at lunch without a bag of chips, right? Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to enjoy what you eat while also improving your food choices. Interested in knowing what they are? Well, your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic have some suggestions to share. Take a look.
Grow What You Eat
Eating the food you have grown is extremely satisfying and a great way to add more fruits and vegetables to your diet. Start with vegetables that are easy to grow, such as peppers and cherry tomatoes, or plant some blackberry bushes in your garden. Becoming fully engaged in what you eat and knowing the amount of effort it takes to grow your own food may make it less of a chore to eat healthily.
Mix Healthy Items Into Your Comfort Foods
A great life hack to incorporate more vegetables into your diet is to mix them into what you already love to eat. Add some zucchini or carrots to your spaghetti sauce, throw some kale or spinach into your morning smoothie, and top your sandwiches and burgers with some avocado and greens. Adding these extra vegetables won't change the taste of what you enjoy but will provide added nutrition to your diet.
Try Different Versions
Instead of grabbing that bag of chips covered in grease, salt, and flavorings, why don't you try a healthier version, like the ones that are baked? And instead of turning your nose up to vegetables and fish because you tried them once and weren't a fan, try a different version or prepare them in a new way.
Eat in Moderation
When you eliminate your favorite foods completely out of your diet, you may end up struggling to tame your cravings. An easy way to keep that from happening though, is to eat in moderation. So, go ahead and enjoy that ice cream or your mom's famous casserole, but stick to smaller servings and supplement your meal with a side salad or extra vegetables.
Enjoying What You Eat
It is easier than you think to enjoy what you eat and to stay healthy while doing so, but keep in mind that when you start forming new habits, you may need to start with baby steps. So, try to incorporate a few of the suggestions above and remember to be easy on yourself. Your success is right around the corner!
