Chiropractic Tip: Upping Fitness Counts at All Levels
By Sandy Schroeder
Many of us intend to exercise more. For some of us, that means actually squeezing in 30 minutes a day every day. For others, it leads to jogging, running or advanced workouts. The point is that fitness counts every step of the way, according to researchers. No matter how much you may be lagging, breaking through the excuses and moving ahead will pay off with better health.
Swedish researcher Ekblom-Bak of the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences in Stockholm, says, "In physical activities, it is particularly important to note an increase in fitness is beneficial, regardless of the starting point. Wherever you start out, whether you move a little or move a lot, your risk of disease can decrease if you add more movement into your day."
As a result of these findings, many researchers are now suggesting doctors assess a patient's fitness during health checkups and consider prescribing more exercise. On the other hand, patients can take the lead too, requesting fitness evaluations and exercise guidelines when they see their doctors.
Do a Quick Check
Knowing that I am making a difference, has inspired me to add an extra early morning walk and a late afternoon jog to my daily schedule.
Think about what you could do.
- You might pick up a fitness buddy and lengthen your daily walks
- You could make every weekend an active one with camping, biking or wilderness walks
- You could add a stationary bike, exercise mat and small weights to your family room
- You could add a family walk after dinner
Chiropractic Can Make the Difference
However you increase your activities, your local chiropractor may be the fitness coach that you need to keep the momentum going.
The Joint Chiropractic clinic in your community provides skilled doctors of chiropractic who supply the best answers for pain relief, and fitness, health and wellness solutions.
When you come in, your chiropractor will ask about aches and pains and review your health history. Starting with a spinal health viewpoint, your chiropractor will explain how a healthy spine can improve overall health. The spine keeps us mobile, and the central nervous system inside supplies all of our brain-to-body communication. When the spine is healthy, we may be, too.
Gentle targeted spinal adjustments may ease aches and pain, and create an overall sense of wellness with more energy, better sleep or a sharper mental alertness. Weekly 15-minute spinal adjustments may be the perfect follow-up to keep fitness efforts focused.
