Jumping rope is great exercise for those who want to set their own pace. It is believed that an hour of intense jumping can burn as many as 1,300 calories. Most people jump at a much slower pace, but whatever they do will still burn calories. People can start slow and work up as they wish. The fact that ropes can be carried easily makes jumping extremely convenient. They can be carried in a purse, bag, or backpack. People can use them inside or out, at home or at work.

When you jump rope, you are doing multiple operations. This can help to exercise your brain just like your body. As you jump, you are forced to balance your body constantly, while landing on the balls of the feet. You are also using the rope at the same time. This can help to work both sides of your brain. Increasing brain activity is believed to help prevent dementia. If you want something simple that can do several things for you, pick up a rope and try jumping.
