Don't Let the Flu Destroy Your Home This Season

By Virginia Laird

Batten down the hatches, flu season is on its way. Each year, millions fall ill with this virus. Some even land in the hospital fighting for their lives from the flu. For many, the help of the flu vaccine can curb symptoms or prevent the illness altogether. Although there is no sure way to avoid falling victim to the virus, there are a few healthy habits you can begin to use to help wipe the germs from your hands and home. These include:

  • Keep sanitizer around your house
  • Clean the surfaces of your home often
  • Make sleep a priority

Keep Sanitizer Around Your House

Because washing your hands with soap and water is not always available, keeping hand sanitizer around is the next best thing. It is great to have while shopping or when in large crowds. Using sanitizer often can help eliminate these germs from the skin, which can prevent them from entering your body. Start keeping sanitizer with you at all times now.

Clean the Surfaces of Your Home Often

Cleaning the variety of surfaces in your home can help prevent the spread of germs. Even those who are well can be a carrier of sickness-causing germs, making it imperative that you clean often. A few areas you should wipe down more than once a day include the bathroom sinks, counter tops, and tables, among others. Although there is little you can do to completely avoid these germs, cleaning the surfaces of your home is a great start.

Make Sleep a Priority

According to research, the body needs adequate sleep to fight off illness. This makes sleep a major priority during flu season. Although you may feel as though you can shave a few hours of sleep off your shut-eye, getting the rest you need helps the immune system function properly. Healthcare experts say that the average adult should get no less than six hours of sleep each night. However, there are plenty who need much more than that. To get the sleep you need it is vital that you go to bed when you are tired. This can help make sleep a priority.

Although flu season has not quite started running rampant, now is the time to begin taking precautions to prevent the illness from attacking your home.
