Do You Fear Blood Pressure Meds?
By Tom Herrin
A lot of people have issues with their blood pressure. It is pretty common and seems to be growing. Many have to take medication in order to maintain it at levels that are acceptable. For those who may have some kind of physiological problem, it is the right thing to do. On the other hand, far too many have issues due to picking up some bad habits, or failing to adopt some good ones. It is one of those things that has almost become a national epidemic and too many people seem to accept it as something that just happens. It doesn't always have to be that way. In many cases, some good lifestyle changes may do enough to make those minor adjustments needed to get back on the right side of good overall health.
Make a Few Changes in Diet
One of the biggest problems that many have today is that they eat poorly. When they are in a hurry, they may rely on fast foods. This steady diet of whatever is the easiest thing to order can backfire. If you need to eat fast foods, it may be far better to decide ahead of time just what kind of meal you want. Look at the menu, read the information, and make a good decision. It is possible to order a lower calorie food. It is also possible to substitute something healthier for something that is full of fats and/or salt. Simply being an informed consumer here may make the difference.
Quit Smoking
This may be one that you have heard but ignored for years. If you smoke, there is no doubt that you are working against the odds. If it is your thing, fine. On the other hand, if you are really getting serious about lowering your blood pressure and impacting your life, now may be the time to make a real effort to quit. There are lots of new programs available for those who are sincerely wanting to stop. It could be something that has a real impact on the length and quality of life.
Self-Monitoring Can Help
If you see that your blood pressure is getting out of hand, why not check it more often at home. These home kits are available for a minimal cost. Keeping an eye on it daily may help you to make the necessary adjustments. In some cases, this will be enough to allow you to make those minor changes that can keep you healthy.
