Spices May Help Balance Your Health

By Tom Herrin

Managing health should be a full-time pursuit for any of us.  The more we understand about our personal health, the better off we are.  As we learn what may benefit our particular situation, we may be able to make adjustments that can be more productive.  There is evidence that some spices may be able to help us with a variety of issues, so choosing the right one for our personal needs may be a big help.  For the most part, there may be more than one that can do what you need, which may give us the flexibility to find one we really like.

Holy Basil!

Besides regular basil, there is a spice called holy basil.  It may be considered a sacred herb in India due to the fact that it helps to fight disease.  Whether it is because it simply boosts the immune system or because it actually fights some diseases, it seems to be a useful spice in this regard.  Some studies have found that it may be able to fight disease-causing organisms.  According to one study, it may be able to boost the immune system in some way.  Whichever is the case, it may be worth trying.

Cinnamon May Help Diabetics

There seems to be a fair amount of evidence that cinnamon can do some pretty good things for those who may have issues with blood sugar.  Some studies on this spice have shown great results in helping to lower blood sugar.  Using it on some foods is best as it can be tough trying to swallow a teaspoonful of it dry.  I like it on toasted bread with butter and a bit of sugar.  It also has some antioxidant properties.  Apparently, it may help fight inflammation and lower cholesterol and triglycerides.

Rosemary May Be in Demand

One spice that many people may know little about is rosemary.  It may be worth a try to get acquainted with it.  Apparently, it may help prevent allergies by suppressing the body's response.  Not only this, but it may help to prevent nasal congestion.  Studies have supported this, and it may be that one thing that makes the difference.  For many of us, this is big as this is a major problem in many areas of the country.  I know that at my home, allergies and congestion can make life miserable.
