Staying Connected With Loved Ones

By Donna Stark

If your goal is to age well, you don't have to look any further than what you can find online. From the correct exercises for your body type to suggestions on how to keep your brain healthy to the types of food you should fill your dinner plates with, you certainly won't be short of good advice. But aging well involves more than just taking care of your physical health. You also need to take care of your emotional health too and the most important thing to focus on is your connection with others. Loneliness is a huge trap to become caught in and can lead to serious health issues, but there are some simple solutions to help your fight against it. Take a look.

Technology

Even though experts are constantly reminding us to turn off our electronic devices, now is the time to turn them on! No matter how great the distance from your loved ones is, technology has made it easy to still have a way to see and engage with each other. Set up some video calls, share pictures, or download some gaming apps that you can play together. Who said distance has to be the deal-breaker?

Snail Mail

While there is certainly a time and place for technology, sometimes doing things the old-fashioned way can make things fun. Isn't it exciting when you get a handwritten letter or gift in the mail? Well, it's the same for everyone else too! Show your loved ones how special they are by mailing a nice card or care package. Make them laugh by sending them something funny and out of the ordinary. But get ready! You could very well be starting a new trend here.

Social Distance Visits

A lack of a loved one's presence can be overwhelming for some people, and if you are struggling with the same, take heart. There are still ways to see each other safely. You can always head outdoors for a walk or set up some chairs on your porch for a safe visit, but if you are concerned with those ideas, why don't you take a coffee break but stay in your own car? Simply order your drinks, find two spots next to each other, and catch up on life with your windows rolled down. It may not be ideal, but it's a great way to see your family or friends.

Fighting Loneliness

Now that you have some ideas on how to battle your loneliness while aging well, why don't you get started right away? I'm sure your loved ones can't wait to connect with you too!
