Dr. Amy Riley joined The Joint Chiropractic family of healthcare providers in 2019, splitting her time between the Buford Mall and Flowery Branch clinic locations. Dr. Amy, as she prefers to be called, attended Gainesville State College (now University of North Georgia) in Oakwood, for pre-med after having received her bachelor’s degree in biology and her associate degree in public health at Georgia College & University in Milledgeville, Ga. She got her doctorate of chiropractic from University of Western States in Portland, Ore.
“The thing I love most about being in the chiropractic field is the ability to provide conservative healthcare and to help with the opioid epidemic,” Dr. Amy says. “The other thing I like is the positive effect that we have in our patients’ lives and the promotion of health.”
Dr. Amy, who’s from Athens, previously worked in Buford, as well as Portland.
She enjoys spending time with family, along with hiking and skiing. She also loves to help people.
She is not surprised that she followed the chiropractic path.
“I went to my family chiropractor since I was a child and was always fascinated by chiropractic and how it helped my family to stay healthy and happy, and decided that is what I wanted to do with my life,” she says.
Dr. Amy is excited about being with The Joint Chiropractic which, she says, is “giving me endless opportunities to help the surrounding community with being happy and healthy.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Amy says the one thing she always keeps in her refrigerator is coconut milk “for my coffee in the morning.”
If she could bring together any four people from history for her dream dinner party, she says it would include “Albert Einstein because I would like to pick his brain, Leonardo da Vinci because I am into art and engineering, Jesus because I am a Christian, and Charles Dickens because I love his writing.”
The coolest thing Dr. Amy has done was something that took her beyond American borders. “I decided to take my internship for my public health degree in Costa Rica,” she says. “I spent four months in a town that did not speak English, with workers who did not speak English, and a house family that did not speak English. I did not speak Spanish -- but I learned rather quickly. I worked at the university in San Jose classifying orchids, and also taught first aid and senior level classes at a local high school.”
Dr. Karsten knew he wanted to be a chiropractor since he was a child. Growing up with a father who is a chiropractor, Dr. Karsten was raised experiencing and seeing the care that chiropractic can provide. He studied biology at the University of St. Thomas before attending Northwestern Health Sciences University to pursue his Doctorate of Chiropractic in Minnesota.
Shortly after graduation in 2017, Dr. Karsten moved to Georgia with his now wife, Kate. Dr. Karsten joined the Merrill Brothers’ Joint Chiropractic Team in January 2022. He is excited to continue providing excellent hands-on care and healing to the community of Sugar Hill. He enjoys seeing the positive progress his patients can achieve through non-invasive, natural treatment. Dr. Karsten continuously attends numerous seminars and training workshops to stay abreast of the latest educational news in the chiropractic profession and to perfect his craft.
In Case You Didn’t Know:
In his free time, Dr. Karsten enjoys going on nature walks with his wife and dog, Teddy and he likes to remain active by playing hockey and golfing. Dr. Karsten and his wife enjoy traveling both domestically to visit family and friends, as well as internationally. He considers himself a “foodie” and loves trying cuisines of all countries.
