How to Put a More Positive Spin On Life
By Sandy Schroeder
We all know when we are having a good day, but we don’t always know how to fix a bad day. If you are looking for clues, HarvardHealth may have some good suggestions.
Positive steps and attitudes may make the difference as we deal with the ups and downs of daily life. Here are three ways to take some steps to make life work better.
Recognize and Use Your Strengths
Each person has an individual set of behaviors, thoughts and skills that create uniqueness. When we know what our strengths are, and use them, life may work better at home and on the job. When you play from strengths you enjoy the confidence of doing something well and the pleasure of doing things that you like. If you are not sure what your strengths are, ask a trusted friend what they see. Strengths that are especially useful are curiosity, love, hope, vitality and gratitude. They make good things happen time after time.
Learn to Say Thank You
Most of us have many reasons to express gratitude. Good friends, a loyal family, a roof over our heads, and good health are all blessings. Take a minute and look beyond your world to see how you can extend a hand to others to help them enjoy the same things. In a chaotic world, there are many ways to reach out with donations or hands-on assistance. Find ones that work for you and your family. Kids often gain the most from learning to help others as their world expands and they see how much their assistance can do. When you have had a long day, take a few minutes to write down three things that you are thankful for. When I do that, the day always seems lighter.
Savor Special Moments Every Day
We all love the excitement of holidays and big moments, but much of life’s little pleasures may be missed if we don’t look closely. Leave a little time every day to just sit and talk with your family. Enjoy family suppers as you stash all of the electronics and listen to each person talk about his or her day. Do a quiet period before bedtime to wind down and read stories. Those are all special moments that keep us connected to the good stuff in our lives. Treasure them.
