Dr. Joe Whitehead has been with The Joint Chiropractic family since 2016 and is honored to be part of the team opening the Flowery Branch clinic. He received a bachelor of science degree from Excelsior College in Albany, N.Y., after getting his doctorate from Life University in 1999.
With two decades of experience, Dr. Whitehead knows well the benefits of chiropractic. “The best thing about being in this field is the deep satisfaction that comes from helping patients regain their ability to enjoy life,” he says. “The other great thing is to be out from behind a desk and interacting with many people each day.”
Dr. Whitehead has worked in Atlanta and several other cities in Georgia, as well as Birmingham, Ala. He and his wife have three daughters and a son, as well as a rescue dog and cat named Winston and Hope, respectively.
In addition to enjoying family trips to St. Augustine, Fla., and learning to sail, Dr. Whitehead enjoys auto racing and drifting, which he participated in previously.
It was through his dad’s work as a designer that led Dr. Whitehead to chiropractic. “I was on the path to medical school when I met Dr. Mike Hatrak,” he says. “My father was designing his kitchen in Alpharetta and I sometimes accompanied him to the job sites. Dr. Hatrak took me to tour the campus of Life University and I fell in love with the chiropractic’s arts and science. The ability to help people without drugs or surgery resonated with me.”
Another thing that resonates with Dr. Whitehead is the opportunity to be the local chiropractor for Flowery Branch. “It’s a brand new location in December 2018,” he says. “I like that I will be building a patient base from Day Zero.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Whitehead is a man who believes in his condiment of choice and says he always has some Texas Pete hot sauce on hand: “I could put it on just about anything.”
If Dr. Whitehead could bring together any four characters from history for his ideal dinner party, he says he would include Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, and Jesus. “I would love to hear the ‘old Hollywood’ stories from Reagan, and of course he was a great president,” he says. “Bush was the head of the CIA, so he has some stories to tell. I would invite Jesus because I have so many questions.”
As for his fourth, he doesn’t have a name. “It would be the first guy on the scene of the Roswell crash because,” he says, “I have to know.”
Dr. Whitehead says a couple of the coolest things he has ever was skydiving and drifting his old Nissan 240.
Dr. Amy Bennett joined The Joint Chiropractic family of healthcare providers in 2019, splitting her time between the Buford Mall and Flowery Branch clinic locations. Dr. Amy, as she prefers to be called, attended Gainesville State College (now University of North Georgia) in Oakwood, for pre-med after having received her bachelor’s degree in biology and her associate degree in public health at Georgia College & University in Milledgeville, Ga. She got her doctorate of chiropractic from University of Western States in Portland, Ore.
“The thing I love most about being in the chiropractic field is the ability to provide conservative healthcare and to help with the opioid epidemic,” Dr. Amy says. “The other thing I like is the positive effect that we have in our patients’ lives and the promotion of health.”
Dr. Amy, who’s from Athens, previously worked in Buford, as well as Portland.
She enjoys spending time with family, along with hiking and skiing. She also loves to help people.
She is not surprised that she followed the chiropractic path.
“I went to my family chiropractor since I was a child and was always fascinated by chiropractic and how it helped my family to stay healthy and happy, and decided that is what I wanted to do with my life,” she says.
Dr. Amy is excited about being with The Joint Chiropractic which, she says, is “giving me endless opportunities to help the surrounding community with being happy and healthy.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Amy says the one thing she always keeps in her refrigerator is coconut milk “for my coffee in the morning.”
If she could bring together any four people from history for her dream dinner party, she says it would include “Albert Einstein because I would like to pick his brain, Leonardo da Vinci because I am into art and engineering, Jesus because I am a Christian, and Charles Dickens because I love his writing.”
The coolest thing Dr. Amy has done was something that took her beyond American borders. “I decided to take my internship for my public health degree in Costa Rica,” she says. “I spent four months in a town that did not speak English, with workers who did not speak English, and a house family that did not speak English. I did not speak Spanish -- but I learned rather quickly. I worked at the university in San Jose classifying orchids, and also taught first aid and senior level classes at a local high school.”
