Ensuring a Clean, Safe, and Healthy Home

By Donna Stark

You clean the kitchen, the bathroom, your bedroom, and your workspace every week. You clean out the garage every fall and you clean the entire house every spring. But how often do you really clean? Like the disinfectant kind of really clean. Did you know that cleaning, deep-cleaning, and disinfecting are three very different things? I'm sure you do know the difference, but let's take a quick look at what makes them so and why we need all of them in our lives.

Cleaning

Cleaning is what we do on a regular basis. It's also what we yell at our children to do on a daily basis. It generally consists of dusting, washing dishes, vacuuming, wiping counters, and picking up toys. It's something that we tend to do every day and usually doesn't require much time at all for each individual chore. The purpose of cleaning is to make your home and workspace safe, comfortable, and appealing to the eye.

Deep Cleaning

Deep cleaning is something that should be done every few weeks or at least once a month. This type of cleaning may include the same chores as your daily cleaning but should involve a little more muscle. Maybe the showers need to be scrubbed, the windows need to be cleaned, or the floors need to be mopped? This is when you do it. This is also a good time to clean the shelves in your refrigerator and to scrub the kitchen garbage can out! Deep cleaning is what you do if you want to remove visible food splatters, dirt, and grime left behind from when you cleaned.

Disinfecting

Depending on how often you feel it is necessary, disinfecting is the next step after cleaning. Where cleaning simply removed out of place objects and cleared up dirt and grime, disinfecting will ensure that your home and workspace are germ-free! Just make sure you clean the area entirely before you start the disinfection process in order to get the best results! Concentrate on common areas and surfaces, and read the label of the disinfectant you are using because you may need to let the product sit for a certain amount of time before it can be wiped away.

Ensuring a Clean, Safe, and Healthy Home

Cleaning and disinfecting your home and workspace regularly are the best ways to ensure good health for everyone in the family, and there is no better time than now to start the process! So, grab your kids and hand them a rag! If everyone chips in, the job will be done in no time.
