Celebrating Birthdays Safely

By Donna Stark

Many areas of our lives have been put on pause with all the lockdowns and social distancing guidelines over the past couple of months, but that doesn't mean that birthdays have slowed down too. And if you have a child who is counting down the days until it's their time to blow out the candles, you probably already know that. Celebrating your little one's birthday is going to look a lot different this year, but there are some very cool ways to ensure a little bit of fun and to lessen any chance of disappointment.

Keeping Your Birthday Celebrations Safe

Our safety and overall health are a priority right now and unfortunately, that means certain things are getting pushed to the side. It's an easy thing to understand as an adult, but for a child who has a birthday coming up? Well, good luck trying to explain that! Fortunately, there are some things you can do to pull off a rocking party with a bang! Take a look.

  • Yard signs - Set up some signs in your yard that tell the world your child is celebrating a special day! Whether they spell out your child's name, wish your child a happy birthday, or just beautify your grass with unicorns or superheroes, your little one sure will be delighted! Just get ready for some extra car honks as your neighbors drive by.
  • Birthday parade - Want to include your family and your child's best friends? Plan a birthday parade! Have your child sit outside in the driveway or on the front porch and ask your guests to drive by for some birthday waves and honks. Have each family decorate their car to make the day more festive and hand out individually wrapped treats as the cars drive by.
  • Painting party - Is your child creative? Why don't you host a virtual painting party with all the friends? Start this special event by delivering all the supplies and a birthday treat before anything gets started. Then, when the time is right, ask everyone to log on to the virtual platform and have them follow along. Try not to choose anything too complicated. Remember, this is a party and it is supposed to be fun. When finished, take time to admire everyone's art and then get ready for a sweet rendition of the happy birthday song!

A Different, But Totally Memorable Day

Just because we need to be a little extra cautious this year and keep our distance from loved ones, doesn't mean birthday parties can't be fun. It just means you may need to take some extra time to brainstorm fun and different ways to get the celebrations going.
