3 Ways to Exercise When You're Stuck Indoors

By Genevieve Cunningham

When most people think about summer, they think about getting outside in the sunshine. They think about pool time, camping trips, and days spent in the great outdoors. But let's face it. The summer can get really, really hot, and when this happens, it's a lot more tempting to stay inside. And staying inside often means less movement and a serious lack of exercise. If you are going to be stuck indoors a bit this summer, and you’d like to keep your health intact, take a look at these great ways to keep your exercise routine going no matter where you are.

Calisthenics

Calisthenics are a great way to work out no matter where you are located. If you're on the go, stuck at home, in a gym, or somewhere else, getting in a quick set of calisthenic moves can really get your body moving in the right direction. Push-ups, sit-ups, squats, lunges, or whatever else makes you feel the burn … do them! Make yourself a small routine, and get fit using your own body weight in your own living room.

Yoga

Yoga is an excellent way to keep the body fit. It stretches and elongates and strengthens the muscles all at the same time. It helps you stay calm and teaches you deep breathing. And for convenience, it can be done just about anywhere. Make a space big enough for a mat anywhere in your house. Then check out a video on the internet or make your own routine. Getting in a quick yoga session in the morning or right before bed can really improve both your health and your life every day.

HIIT

You don't have to have a gym or a ton of space outside in order to participate in high intensity interval training. It might take a little adapting, but for all intents and purposes, you can absolutely make a HIIT routine work in a tight space. And since this is an excellent way to work out, you'll be breaking a serious sweat, working your muscles harder than ever, and you'll never even have to leave your house to do it.

It might be easier to work out outdoors or at the gym, but you can absolutely get in a great workout right indoors. Use these workouts to help you get moving in the right direction. With a little bit of experimentation, may find something that works perfectly for you to help you stay healthy and strong even when you're stuck indoors all season long.
