Have You Been on a Binge? Here's How to Get Healthy

By Genevieve Cunningham

Even if you're really good about eating a healthy diet and exercising most of the time, everyone has moments of weakness. We all have those moments when we let loose and binge. We eat too much, exercise too little, and we enjoy it and feel guilty about it all at the same time.  While the occasional binge isn't really something to worry about, frequent binges or binges that are prolonged might get in the way of your health. If you've recently been on a binge and you're having trouble getting back on track, take a look at these tips to help you today.

Make a Schedule

Binge eating often means that we eat whenever we feel like it. We don't stick to any sort of schedule. We watch TV when we feel like it. We snack whenever we feel like it. We self-sabotage. If you're ready to stop this behavior, just make yourself a schedule. Schedule your meals and snacks. Schedule your exercise. Schedule your slots for mindless entertainment. A schedule helps us get back on track. It serves as a guide. If you like structure, then this is a great way to end the binge and move toward health again.

Be Mindful

When we get in one of these unhealthy binges, we're often doing it to avoid whatever is going on in our life at the present moment. We don't want to worry with bills or busy schedules. We just want to relax! It can be helpful in these moments to be completely present. Practice mindfulness. Practice mindful eating and mindful movement. This allows you to end the worry and stress, which helps you stick to healthier habits on a daily basis.

Start Moving

Don't go crazy. Don't join an intense program. Don't work out so hard that you can't walk. But start moving. Go for a walk. Stretch. Swim. When you move, it boosts focus and motivation. And once these areas of your life begin to improve, it's so much easier to get back on track. Go easy on yourself, but definitely start moving a little more every day.

Don't stress too hard if you've been a little loose on your diet or exercise habits. It happens! But when you're ready to improve your health again, these tips can definitely help. Start slowly, stick with it, and you'll be back to your healthy habits and lifestyle in no time at all.
