Energize Your Life with Some Balance

By Donna Kostiew

Living a balanced life seems to be the favorite goal of so many people for the New Year. Everybody is searching for, and hoping to find, at least a little piece of it. We know that maintaining a healthy balance in life can be difficult, but we also know that in addition to our happiness and overall well-being, a balanced life can be a tremendous boost to our creativity and productivity as well. So it seems that if something can be that positive, then perhaps we should try a little harder at bringing it into our lives.

Finding the Balance

There is not much point in working toward a successful and busy life if you can’t find the time to enjoy it. So if you are searching for some balance, here are just a few steps to guide you along your way.

  • Healthy eating – In order to have a healthy body, you must fuel it with the right foods. Be intentional about what you and your family are consuming. If your food glows when you pull it out of the microwave, it’s probably not the best choice. You want to have a diet filled with nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, heart-healthy fats and carbs … and little to no added sugars! Since it is so easy to find healthy recipes that work for your family online, there is no excuse to not give some a try.
  • Commitment to fitness – It is easy to get so caught up in our busy lives that we often put our own fitness goals on the back burner. Prioritize your health by making time to exercise as much as you can. It would be great if you could do it every day, but listen … I’m a mom, and I get it. Every day may be pushing it. A couple times a week may be more manageable, so as long as you are setting aside some time for yourself every week to get in some exercise, we will count that as a success!
  • Igniting old passions – One reason why so many adults feel that they have lost that balance is because they have forgotten what they used to love to do. What does your heart beat for? Where has the creativity, which has been suppressed for years, disappeared to? Allowing yourself to once again become involved with doing what you love will bring new energy to your life. So devote some time each week toward doing that. And if you can’t remember what that one thing was, then try something new or develop a hobby that interests you.

Balancing your life can be tricky and may even involve more than just the three steps described above. You have to start somewhere though, and once you do get started, there may be no stopping you! Enjoy your new, balanced life!
