How to Motivate Yourself for a Morning Workout

By Sara Butler

Exercising in the morning is really good for you. It helps you to be more productive and alert throughout the day and jumpstarts your metabolism to keep you torching calories all day long. But if you’re like most people, then you have some problems finding the motivation to get out of bed before you have to and get to the gym. Here are a few tricks you can try to help you find some morning motivation to work out!

Move the Clock

Force yourself to get up out of bed each morning by simply moving the alarm clock across the room instead of keeping it right next to your bed. Once you’re actually up and out of your snuggly sleeping cocoon, it’s that much easier to start your day.

Have a Friend

When you have a workout buddy or sign up for an early morning class, it’s a great motivator to actually work out. After all, if you have other people who expect you to be somewhere, then it greatly reduces the chances that you’re going to skip it. You don’t want to create a reputation for yourself as someone who habitually oversleeps, do you?

Write Out Your Goals

Every week you should sit down at the beginning of the week and write out your fitness goals. Pick days ahead of time you will get up early to exercise and then do it. If you look at your workout schedule as an appointment or meeting, then it will help you to keep it.

Create an Awesome Playlist

Music is a great motivator to help you get moving. That’s why something as simple as a great playlist can really give you the extra lift you need to get up and get going. In fact, research has shown that music during exercise can help to offset fatigue and produce positive feelings. And remember, the higher the tempo, the more energized you’ll feel.

Get Ready the Night Before

It’s a lot harder to make excuses for your morning workout if you take the time the night before to set everything out. Pack your gym bag or set out your workout clothes so it’s all right there waiting for you. This will also help you to streamline your morning routine and get you out the door faster.

You can win the battle of wills with your brain to become a morning workout junkie!
