What to Do This Summer in Your City

By Brandi Goodman

The summer season is often filled with long, sunny days that leave you with plenty of time to explore. It provides the perfect opportunity for fitness with lots of activities that will have you up and moving. Find fun things to do this summer in your city that can keep you entertained and provide a unique workout.

Visit Local and Nearby Parks

Plenty of local and nearby parks are available to Sandy Springs residents in Georgia. Walk or hike through the available areas to see some beautiful sights and get in a good workout. Big Trees Forest Preserve is located off Roswell Road. You have acres to explore. Other parks in town include Ridgeview Park, Morgan Falls Overlook Park, Abernathy Greenway, Lost Corner Preserve, and Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

Your kiddos can enjoy these parks as well. Several offer playground structures that your kids can climb on. Get out there with them if you can and play like a kid again. Doing so offers great exercise. Use the available green space to toss a ball or Frisbee, which will also have you working up a sweat.

Go River Rafting

River rafting is a common pastime in Georgia. Head to the Chattahoochee River and get your raft out so you can take a scenic view through the water. Be sure to check the current conditions before heading out so you can make sure it's safe to go. Rafting can burn some calories as you get your vessel into the water and use an oar to steer yourself in the right direction. It provides an excellent arm workout.

Fish

Fishing is also common to enjoy. The farther out you go and the more walking you do to get there, the better it is for your body. You can burn some calories as you make your way to the water and cast your line over and over again. It's not as beneficial for your arms as rowing, but it still works. There are fishing piers located off Morgan Falls Dam and Morgan Falls Overlook Park. You can, of course, fish by boat using the Chattahoochee River as well. If all you want to do is bank fish, there's also the Island Ford National Recreation Area.

There's plenty to do this summer in your city. You just need to think about what you're interested in and head out to enjoy the physical activity it'll bring. Staying fit this summer in Sandy Springs, Georgia is possible with all these options and more.
