No Time to Exercise? Alternatives to the Gym
By Virginia Laird
Do you find your life to be busy and hectic? If this describes you, there is most likely little to no time to spend at the gym. Still, maintaining good health is paramount to keep up with the on-the-go lifestyle you lead. There are several ways you can be certain to get your exercise without ever needing to spend hours at the gym. Many of these can happen while out and about in daily life. Some of these things include:
- Jog through your neighborhood
- Go for a walk
- Climb the stairs in your home or office
Jog Through Your Neighborhood
Jogging is a great exercise that offers many benefits for the body. It can be mentally relaxing. It also works the body’s cardio, strengthens muscles, and helps with weight loss or weight maintenance. Jogging is one of the many exercises that can take place almost anywhere. If you find yourself at your child’s practice, it can be easy to jog on location. Another great place to jog is through your neighborhood. There you may even be able to find a workout buddy to help you stay motivated and on task.
Go for a Walk
If you don't love to jog or jogging is too taxing on the body, no problem. Walking is just as good. Research has long suggested that walking as little as three miles per day is as good for the body as jogging two miles. What makes walking even more appealing is that it can happen anywhere. Do you work in an office or building that requires a great deal of walking? This can count as your exercise, which can save you time at the end of a long day.
Climb the Stairs in Your Home or Office
Climbing the stairs is a great way to get the heart pumping. It can tone the legs, making the muscles leaner. Climbing stairs helps build a strong heart and lungs. Another great thing about climbing the stairs is that it is free. Stairs can be found in the home and office. Something as simple as choosing the stairs rather than the elevator can help you get your workout in while at work. If you don’t work in a place with stairs or do not have stairs in your home, no worry! Many parks have stairs as well.
If your lifestyle does not leave room for you to squeeze in a fitness class or time to head to the gym, consider using these ideas to make sure you are getting your exercise daily. Now get out there and get moving!
