Healthy Gift Ideas for Your Parents
By Brandi Goodman
Choosing a gift for your parents (or grandparents) can be tough. It's sometimes hard to know what you can get them that they'd actually use or don't already have. Whether you're choosing a gift for Parent's Day in July, their birthday, Christmas, or any other occasion, it's a good idea to look at healthy options that will be worthwhile.
A Healthy Food Gift Basket
Making meals can be a challenge as you get older. Either you don't feel like making such a big fuss when there's only one or two of you at home, or you may not have the arm strength or ability to stir for long without pain setting in. Buy your parents a healthy food gift basket so they can enjoy some nutritious options without having to cook. A basket filled with fruit and nuts is an option. A gift card to a health food restaurant can suffice as well.
Jumbo Cards and Puzzles
The eyes start to struggle as people age. If your parents already wear glasses or have been complaining about not seeing as well, then some jumbo cards and puzzles could be a wise gift choice. Doing puzzles and playing card games are great for the mind as you age, helping to retain memory and prevent aging of the brain. Jumbo versions that are easy to see will be incredibly beneficial.
Diffuser and Essential Oils
Stress can set in easily no matter your age. Essential oils have been known to help because certain scents promote a feeling of relaxation or can help you feel uplifted and energized. Purchase a diffuser and some essential oils to go with it that can be used for these purposes.
A Journal
Journals are great for two things as you age. They can help offer stress relief as you write about your struggles. They can also act as a memory book filled with stories of your life. All genders can benefit from writing down their thoughts and having a keepsake filled with memories both for themselves and to pass on once they're gone. It makes a great gift for your mom or dad, grandpa or grandma, or anyone else in your life who could benefit.
Always consider your parents' health when looking for gift options. It may not always cross their minds to get these things for themselves, so you doing it for them can be a big help.
